Maroon 5's "Girls Like You" - A 'Schenkerian' Approach

​It's easy to overlook how notes relate to each other when they are not adjacent but it's key to good songwriting. Here's how Maroon 5 maintain tension throughout the verse in "Girls Like You" by ending each phrase on ^2 and only resolving to ^1 at the end. Schenker would be proud.
